Multi-electron coincidence spectroscopy: double photoionization from molecular inner-shell orbitals

چکیده
We have studied double photoionization from molecular inner-shell orbitals and investigated the properties of the resultant double core-hole states in molecules, by multielectron coincidence spectroscopy with a magnetic bottle electron spectrometer. A brief summary of our previous studies is presented.

Single-photon multiple ionization processes studied by electron coincidence spectroscopy
This thesis is based on studies of multiple ionization of atoms and molecules induced by the absorption of a single photon. For the experimental investigations a time-of-flight magnetic bottle spectrometer has been used to detect the emitted electrons in coincidence. The method of coincidence time-of-flight spectroscopy and the experimental setup used is described. Experimental and theoretical ...
متن کاملPhotoelectron-Auger electron coincidence spectroscopy of free molecules: new experiments
Photoelectron-Auger electron coincidence spectroscopy probes the dicationic states produced by Auger decay following the photoionization of core or inner valence levels in atoms, molecules or clusters. Moreover, the technique provides valuable insight into the dynamics of core hole decay. This paper serves the dual purpose of demonstrating the additional information obtained by this technique c...
متن کاملEnergy and angular distributions of electrons emitted by direct double auger decay.
We have observed the direct L(2,3)MMM double Auger transition after photoionization of the 2p shell of argon by angle-resolved electron-electron coincidence spectroscopy. The process is responsible for about 20% of the observed Auger electron intensity. In contrast to the normal Auger lines, the spectra in double Auger decay show a continuous intensity distribution. The energy and angular distr...
متن کاملMulti-coincidence spectroscopy on interatomic Coulombic decay
The inner-shell ionized states in matter are subject to Auger decay. Auger spectra are considered as fingerprint images of the atom where the inner-shell hole is created. About a decade ago, Cederbaum and coworkers [1] proposed a new mechanism of electronic decay where the environment plays a role. For an isolated atom or molecule with an innervalence vacancy, Auger decay is often energetically...
متن کاملSite-selective photoemission from delocalized valence shells induced by molecular rotation.
Due to the generally delocalized nature of molecular valence orbitals, valence-shell spectroscopies do not usually allow to specifically target a selected atom in a molecule. However, in X-ray electron spectroscopy, the photoelectron momentum is large and the recoil angular momentum transferred to the molecule is larger when the photoelectron is ejected from a light atom compared with a heavy o...
